There are two types of liability insurance you are required to have.

Bodily Injury Liability

The first is bodily injury liability which covers injuries to other motorists and pedestrians as a result of your actions while driving. This will cover their medical expenses and pain and suffering up to a maximum amount as described b y your insurance policy. You are required to have at least $25,000 per person, and $50,000 per accident of bodily injury liability insurance. You can have more then this amount, but not less.

Property Damage Liability

You are also required to have at least $10,000 of property damage liability insurance. This will cover damages to others property such as their car, but does not cover damages to your car. To have your car protected you must have comprehensive and collision insurance as part as your policy.
