Manitoba Auto Insurance
Manitoba Auto Insurance is government run, which means there is only one government owned insurance company,
Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI),
which you can buy liability insurance from.
The minimum liability for Manitoba is $200,000. MPI is required to cover you for $200,000 for injury and personal damage to others. If the claim is higher then this amount, MPI will pay no more then $20,000, property damage, and you will be responsible for any amount over this.
This liability also covers injuries to you. Regardless of fault, if you are injured, MPI will pay your medical bills, with no limit in place. MPI will also give 90 % of your weekly earning for the duration you are not able to work. This occurs to a maximum of $69,000.
If you are killed in an accident, your family will be compensated for your death, but this amount depends on many factors.
The reason there is no cap on the total amount of medical bills if you are injured, is because in the province of Manitoba, you are not allowed to sue the other driver for injuries, or pain and suffering. This is a 'no fault' insurance program, and you waive all rights to sue the other party regardless of fault.
If you wish to increase your liability limit or purchase comprehensive or collision coverage, you can do this from other private companies.
