Saskatchewan Auto insurance

Saskatchewan auto insurance is government run, which means there is no competition and you must buy the insurance from the government company, Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI). This government run company is different then the others in Canada, as you have the option of two plans.

One is a straight no-fault insurance, in which you cannot sue anyone for personal injury as a result of your accident. This is the same as all the other government run companies in Canada.

The other option is a tort system, in which you are allowed to sue for injuries as a result of the auto accident.

The minimum liability coverage for Saskatchewan is $200,000. The SGI is required to cover you for $200,000 for injury and personal damage to others. If the claim is higher then this amount, the insurance company will pay no more then $10,000 for property damage, and you will be responsible for any amount over this. This is the same regardless of the system you choose.

If you choose the no-fault system, then you are covered up to $5,502,680 for your medical bills, and 90 % of your weekly earning for the duration you are not able to work. This can occur for up to $63,043 per year.

If you choose the tort option, SGI will cover you for up to $21,506 for medical expenses. If you are forced to miss work, you will be covered for $21,506 per year. However, with this system you still have the right to sue the responsible driver for injuries as well as pain and suffering.

If you are killed in an accident, your family will be compensated for your death, but this amount depends on many factors.

This government run saskatchewan auto insurance system is different then the others in Canada, in that you have a choice between two options. Although there is a choice the majority of people opt for the no-fault policy. Get a free online quote to compare auto insurance prices.
