Vermont Auto Insurance
It is required, by all drivers, to have a minimum amount of Vermont auto insurance in order to legally drive. This mandatory insurance includes liability insurance and uninsured motorist insurance.
Liability Insurance
Liability insurance covers damages to third parties when you are found at fault for an auto accident. It can be broken down into two categories- Bodily Injury Liability
- This insurance covers medical expenses and injuries for third parties when you are found at fault for an auto accident. It does not cover your injuries, as for that coverage, some form of separate medical insurance is required. The minimum amount of bodily injury insurance is $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.
- Property Damage Liability
- This insurance covers any property damage that you cause (usually the third parties car) to third parties as a result of your driving. This does not cover damages to your car. For that coverage,
comprehensive and collision coverage
is required. The minimum amount of property damage liability is $10,000.
It is recommended that you raise your liability over the state minimums, as any damages over your liability amount will be your responsibility to pay. Raising your liability insurance will increase your premiums, but not by a large degree. To get an idea of how much it will cost, get a

Uninsured Motorist Insurance
You are also required to have Uninsured motorist Vermont auto insurance. This insurance will cover you if you are involved in an accident with a motorist who does not have insurance. Instead of you having to take the uninsured to court, in order to collect for damages, your insurance company just covers your damages, and then usually takes the uninsured to court.
